Wanda Pimentel

Série Memória, 2014 | Drawing and object in acrylic box | 20 x 32 x 7 cm

Artist who was born and lives in Rio de Janeiro, has his artistic trajectory developed in painting. In the 1960s, she had as master Ivan Serpa, one of the pioneers of Constructivism in Brazil and Palatnik colleague in the prestigious Frente Group. In the 1970s, under the sign of the harshness of the "lead years", the artist produced series such as "Bueiro" (street culvert) which escapes the usual representation of the domestic space of her works, reaching the exterior, the street, urban objects and utilities deprived of their function.

The Constructivist influence in Pimentel occurs mainly in how it deals with spatial organization. Her poetic vocabulary, in turn, moved toward the pictorial exploration of feminine and domestic signs, with plaited language and solid forms imported from the American POP Art.
